Desiderata

It’s been a busy week for me.  I’ve been off work. Over the last few days I’ve spent about 15 hours in the car traveling around Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.  I picked up my son from Indianapolis and delivered him to Lafayette, IN on Wednesday.  On Thursday I went to South Bend, IN to teach software classes for Bueter’s Sewing Center.  We had great classes on Thursday and Friday.  It was good to see Andy and Brenda and spend time with a wonderful group of women.  On Friday afternoon I returned home to complete final preparations for a Diamond owners class for Luke’s Sewing Center in Elsmere, KY.  The class was quite big with 16 Diamond owners!  By the end of class on Saturday I was a pretty tired lady.  So this week I thought I’d share a project I recently completed.

The picture is of the embroidered poem Desiderata.  It is a poem from the 1930′s.  It became quite popular in the 60′s and has often been used for graduations.  The poem is a wonderful piece on how to conduct one’s life.  I find it very true for where I want to be and where I want to go. I have researched copyright on this poem and found that the courts have determined it to be in public domain. So it is perfectly legal to reproduce it in this fashion.

The finished project is 45″ by 18″.  It was 7 hoopings on the SE.  Once the lettering was complete I added the decorative stitches. Most of them are from the Pfaff machine stitches.  I used a light batting, a plain back and completed it with a complementary border.

The 4D multi line lettering capability made this project a snap. (This would have been extremely painful in 3D.) Once the lettering was complete I took it into 4D Design Aligner and broke it into the 7 hoopings.  The stitching is just beautiful.

I was quite pleased with the finished product. It will be a Christmas gift.  I plan to make another one for myself.
