Another Week – What’s happened to the Time

Well another very busy week. I’m not real sure what I did with the time.  I did have a big chunk taken out attending to my full time job.  But after that I don’t know what I did.

I did spend one evening organizing.  But I don’t remember what I did with the rest of my time.  I do loose quite a lot of time in the 4D software and keeping up with the online groups. I think I need to start keeping a journal and planning my evenings.

You’d think I’d be able to get all kinds of things done.  At my house my DH is the cook AND clean up crew. He’s self employed and has a pretty flexible schedule.  So this means he can  figure out dinner and get to the store.  He does a great job at it.  It’s his kitchen and it’s fine with me.  Yes, I am spoiled and he is too.

I have been working on software lessons and some creative classes.  The software lessons sharpen skills in specific areas of the software.  The one I’m working on is focused on Encore, editing and Design Splitter.  I should have something available on my web site in a few weeks. (We’ll see :) ).

I did spend one evening putting details together for an upcoming class.  Another evening I caught up on mail.  Then one evening I worked out some instruction details on my machine.  I did have a little time with a bag I’m trying to finish up.  It would make a great class.  It uses some of the great stitches on the machine and button holes.  It’s not my design and lesson, but it get’s me thinking.

So I guess I did do a few things.

I just need to find some extra time.  Perhaps I should design and have someone else sew samples. Wouldn’t that be silly.  I love creating.  Most of my ideas come to me while I’m playing, looking at designs and sewing.  I love the creative process.  If only  I could focus on just sewing.

Today was a good day in my work area.  As I was finishing up (DH had dinner ready)  I was thinking I’d better get something posted.  I’ve been working on a new class.  The test sample is stitched and now I need to go back and do the tweaking.  I’ll let you know what it is in a few weeks.

Oh I do need more time.

How do you manage to find time for your sewing?  Do you journal your sewing so you can refer back to you accomplishments?  Do you have any secrets for packing in a little more sewing time.  Let me know and share with the others that stop in.

Left Edge Topstitching foot

Do you have a favorite sewing tool? Well we all probably have many – not the least of which is our machine. There are pressing tools, cutting tools and tools to make our sewing easier. This week I’m sharing one of my favorite feet, the Left Edge Topstitching foot. Here is a picture.

This foot makes creating a beautiful accurate top stitch a breeze. The bottom of the foot has a cut out so the edge of the fabric at a seam will glide along in a consistent manner.

When I’m teaching, I have students try out the foot by manually gliding it along a seam.  This helps the students understand how the foot works.

In the sample I stitched one row and then came back and stitched a second row.

Top stitching for pockets or seams is so easy with this foot.

What’s your favorite foot?  Or is there another sewing tool that you find fun and easy to use?  Let me know.

Super Bowl Sunday

Well, I really don’t get too excited about Super Bowl Sunday.  It does mean I will spend as much time as I can sewing.  Not to avoid the game but just because that’s what I try to do with my Sundays.  In years past, I’ve joined a great group of women for a day of sewing with Pam at Sew-Ezy.  This year I’ll stay home and concentrate on a few item I need to complete.

I’m finishing my preparation for a SE/DI owners class.  The project is a shopping bag and features several techniques with specialty feet.  There is embroidery on screening, monogramming, Omnigram stitches and piping.  I don’t have pictures yet but I’m getting close.  (See Class Schedule for more information .)  Hopefully, I’ll finish up with the bag and still have time to work on – yes – the UFOs.

For the last couple weeks I’ve been pretty good about getting in a little sewing every day.  It may only be 1/2 hour but it is something.  I make a little project progress every day.  Here’s my latest project completed in multiple short sessions:

abcbook1

Embroidered ABC book has a page for each letter of the alphabet. UFO project time to compete - 1 year.

abcbook3

The designs are from The Stitch Connection, design pack ABC Quilt Machine Embroidered by Lynda Howell.

Now I need to get it off to my 1 year old niece.

The next UFO in the pile is a silk bag with specialty stitches. Let’s see if I’ll have it done, with pictures, to post next week.

Happy sewing Super Bowl! LIN
